Silapathar Town College, one amongst the premier under-graduate Arts Stream institution of higher education at Silapathar, Dist- Dhemaji, Assam was established in 1993.
Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain joined Dibrugarh University as the Vice–Chancellor on 10 June, 2013. Earlier, he was the Registrar of Tezpur Central University and a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in the same University. Professor Buragohain was the founder head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Tezpur Central University. Professor Buragohain studied at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, from where he graduated in Science. He obtained his M.Sc. in Botany with specialization in Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding from Gauhati University. He joined the Department of Biology and Applied Biology at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London from where he gained the Ph.D. degree in Plant Molecular Biology.
Prof. Alak Kr. Buragohain, envisages Dibrugarh University as a major centre of Teaching, Learning and Research with emphasis on enhancing human values, inclusiveness and strong industry academia interfacing within the framework of an all encompassing holistic world view.

Hope and aspirations of human beings depends on their individual intension and dedication. Spirit of life rest on ambition and aspiration. If our aspirations are higher, the quality of our life will have to be better and in order to fulfill it we need to have higher intention and dedication. It has been the objective of Silapathar Town College to inculcate a deep sense of universal welfares among the students in the pursued of their ambitions.
Through hard work and dedication with patience and perseverance everything can be achieve. Therefore, I advise all to persistent in your strive for goal in the pursuit of your ambitions so you can enhanced the lustre and glory of this college. Having these opportunities I offer my gratitude and congratulate the present students on their success in different arena and convey my heartiest thanks to the faculty members and office staff for their unflinching and dedicated service to the college. It should be very mean on my part if I do not acknowledge the effort of each and every member of the college fraternity and well wishers without home college would not have been able to curve a niche for itself in this area as remarkable institution for providing quality education. However, there is still miles to go and I am hopeful that the college will be able to strive higher and higher in the days to come ahead.
